Tell me about it mate, even more awesome when you net a second fish that came up with it, just like 2 season back in Burley when a huge
school of males came up with this BIG female :)
Thats the stuff Romen, I spotted the BIGGEST yella ive seen up at googong two years back, she was 70cm+ i reckon and had about half a dozen males chasing her around and the males all would have all been 55cm's. Bounced lures on their noses for about 15 minutes but just not interested at all. Got the heart pumping tho
So the weather held out on friday, not many fish about but.....
I got down there about 8:01am keen to grab at least a couple of redfin and got a BIG suprise. I made my way down the western foreshore, flicking spinnerbaits and jackalls and after about 3 hours found myself flicking back up the eastern side towards bradleys when i found a pretty hungry school of redfin. Figuring this was my best option for the day as the wind was picking up, i tied off to a tree poking out of the water and switched back to a jackall. 3 casts saw 3 redfin (15cm) in the boat so i tried further out for a bigger fish. The lure barely hit the water when it was absolutely clobbered and the Sol was screaming.
After a good 5 minute fight on 10lb braid and a 2kg stick I landed my VERY FIRST Murray Cod @ 66cm. Sorry about the average photo quality but i was shaking pretty hard and on my own. Took lots of care to wet the brag mat, swim the fish between pics and removing the lure. Then a really good swim and many many praises to the fish, and it flopped off back in the direction of the redfin.
By far the best moment of my short fishing career as i have tried for a cod for over 2 years now with no luck. I have watched my partner catch an 11kg monster from LBG and recently helped a mate nail his first one from googong, so it was good to finally treat myself. And safe to say i wasnt trying for a cod this time, as i thrown around 200 casts already and had given up on natives for the day.
Just a word of advice, now we're in close season don't pick the fish up out of the water, if the fisheries see you do that you'll get pinged!
It can also make the cod reabsorb their eggs!
Cheers,
Sam
