well that was a bit of a silly idea, although i learnt to remove the bung on the way home to drain the boat quickly :-P
got 1 redfin, but only got about 20 mins of fishing in before i had to hide under a tree and wait for a break in the rain, of which there werent many at 7:30am. Left at 8:30 and was sitting in front of the heater by 9am. I honestly thought it would clear up to be a reasonable day, good old canberra....
Has anybody fished the river just below the dam wall (I think it's the Molonglo...)? I drove past today and it looked alright, might give it a crack tomorrow.
Both casting and trolling will work in LBG. I prefer to cast for the yellas although once spring finally arrives proper the fish are going to be out and active and more likely to hit a lure being trolled past. Come summer with the hotter days I like to throw spinnerbaits amongst the willows ( remaining ) in deeper water,
You can still catch them trolling these areas but they are more likely to stick close to the snags.
You should also get a couple of suspending divers and cast them towards the shallows, I concentrate on those areas where the reeds or rushes are growing around the edge simply roll them out a couple of meters then pause before giving a sharp twitch or two. With suspending lures when ever you see a follow you can pause for a few seconds then twitch more often then not you will get hit. This season I am going to try out suspending lipless cranks, After seeing one in the Sebile tank last week at tackleworld I think they could turn all those follows I get on my jackalls into landed fish.
For the reddies either troll around suitable lures or use a sounder if it's good enough then cast small vibes, soft plastics etc into the school, you can usually catch several fish before the school may move and sometimes you can hammer them for hours and still have to leave them biting.
Can't help ya with the cod in LBG though, I stuggle there big time on the greenfish and it frustrates me no end. But you could do worse then trolling big divers anywhere the old river bed runs close to shore Black mountain, Lady Denmin or even in the molonglo from where it enter the lake all the way to Fyshwick and beyond. When the season opens Dec 1 obviously .
yeah, i've never really tagretd cod in LBG, just reddies and yellas, and the occasional powerbait sight cast to a carp. The one cod to end up in my boat was trolled up in 9 metres of water with a 2.5 metres diver, which seemed a bit odd to me.
Heading back down there in a minute, i feel ripped off as i have had 2 days off work and its rained on both :-/
Your damn keen, I went running this morning it was miserable. Hope this weather improves.
