    Default Tacklebox Rules - Locations

    Gday fellas,

This thread has come about mainly as the site has boomed in terms of member numbers.

I along with the other mods and many more members believe Tacklebox needs to spell out a rule that was once unwritten law on TBX.

This is a simple topic of locations and what to name on the site. There was an unwritten law on TBX when I joined up that you keep exact location to yourself, and its for a good bloody reason, if you post it here you post it up for the world to read.

We simply ask all members to have a good think about what they are posting prior to hitting submit button. Once its on the forum that location will be open slather for anyone who reads the post. ( or googles it )

Heres some points to think about before posting-

Would you give away your favourite location to a complete stranger??

If you have a cracker of a day, do you tell every person you see where you landed all your fish??

Are you confident that others will treat the location with the respect it deserves?

Its fine to mention impoundments as theres alot of water to find the fish in, but you do not need to be specific on where.

Rivers and creeks, If well known, only need mention the river, not head down this road, chuck a left, then right...not a good idea.

Then there are smaller rivers and creeks that may not even need a mention at all.

Im a freshwater fisho but im sure you blokes would agree that the same goes for the salt. Out in the deep im sure its fair enough, but little jettys or hidden away creeks dont really need to be posted up for the world to see.

We can still all share our trips, but any in depth advice about locations can be done via PM. But we thought a reminder was needed and we ask that all members think twice about what they post.

I hope everyone understands why we have started this thread, but if you have any questions please yell out.

    cheers

Very true Bucks! What he says is right, when you post it here it's here and can only be removed by a mod or the poster.

It's not our job to enforce this kind of stuff, but remember ultimately you pay the price for your generosity.

If you must post up the location do it in PM where nobody else can see it!

    Cheers guys,

    Sam

I go by the general rule of "if one person knows it's a secret, if 2 people know, it's public". However, I'm not as secretive about fishing spots as some people on here would like, I imagine.

yeah its not about not sharing, but just deciding who you share with.I know where your coming from shane as your about promoting fishing, but its not just ACT waters we are talking about, its australia wide. Another point is it will save alot of members getting their noses out of joint awell.

general location is good but outlining where and how is something that has taken many of us years to discover, so why not let others do the hard yards ??

More to the point nothing worse than visiting one of them out of the way spots thats been posted on a forum and discovering rubbish and crap all over the place, or worse setlines, and this has happened a few times that i know which was the result of a post on this forum.

    cheers

I agree Bucks, i always like to promote the local lakes, but when it comes to the rivers its a much different story.

Totally agree about fishing the rivers, but I don't keep any secrets when it comes to the ACT lakes. They are stocked for everyone's use and enjoyment.

    G/W Buck- I like that
IMHO- If one wants to give specific areas then do it via PM, its the best way...

Besides, half the satisfaction is finding a spot and reeping rewards from it- Ive shown a few blokes my spots but I dont tell anyone in public eye- and If I show someone from a site this spot I ask them nicely to respect the spot and dont go telling its location in the public eye... like most spots mine fire sometimes and not on others, you just gotta have some luck and know how to fish the area.

yeah agree about the lakes shane, but explaining where to throw a lure is somethng isnt needed. It takes alot of work to find the the good spots and i reckon that needs to be something that is learnt by trial and error IMO.

I guess this is why 99% of the fishing reports from the Maroochy River give "The Cod Hole" as the hot spot
