liljozh i used to tie all my flies when i was mad on trout fishing, i used to buy thread designed for fly tying through my local tackle store. you should be able to get all your thread, tinsel, beads, and lead wire through a good tackle shop. This isnt to say cotton thread wont work, just remember to set the head part of your thread with cement eg. clear nail polish works ok.
