CVLCSS ROUND 3 RESULTS, CAMPASPE RIVER
Ayson's Reserve just out the road from Elmore on the Campaspe river was the location for round 3 of the CVLCSS. We have fished this spot every year of the series so far and although it is probably the lesser known of our locations, it is always an enjoyable day which has the potential to always produce fish. This potential should increase in the coming years with numbers of murray cod and yellowbelly being released in the area.
Attendance numbers were not as heighty as the first two rounds, but there was still an increase in competitors for this venue. A total of 47 registered, including 4 juniors. We have highlighted the fact that this series, the generousity of our sponsors has enabled us to give all juniors at every round a loot of goodies.
Thre were 22 fish recorded for the morning, 4 yellas, 17 reddies and 1 carp. As there were no murray cod caught on the day, the biggest native prize went back to the yellowbelly. With two yellas recorded at 39cm, it was then a countback to their next best fish. Jarrod Martin of Bendigo took home the $140 on offer for this category. I must stress to all competitors that all fish must be photographed on their brag mats with the token in view.
In the points categories, third place went to Scott Jones of Ballarat with 59 points. His prize was 3 spinnerbaits made in the 1940's, kindly donated by Shags of Echuca. Runner-up receiving the smaller of the prize boards was Kevin Grenville from Violet Town with 60 points. The overall points win went to Jarrod Martin with 79 points. Jarrod went home smiling with another $330 in cash and the large prize board. He fished with a Mikado lipless crankbait from "KINGSTON LURES".
The fish stocking raffle raised another $185. "OUTLAW SPINNERBAITS" donated two lures, a 5m lure retrieving pole was won (you can get the poles from "TRELLYS"), a six month subscription to "NORTH EAST ANGLER" was taken and a lure storage system donated by "MARTYBOX" was given away. Great prizes and good odds for a dollar.
Thankyou to everyone who attended and helped out in any way. Everybody has some type of input into making it a great day. Thankyou again to our great sponsors who are all listed on the bottom of the page. Please take the time to recognize them.
A little report on the fishing at Elmore in the afternoon after the dust had settled. The kids had a cast from the bank in front of camp with a couple of lipless crankbaits and scored around half a dozen reddies in under an hour. The biggest went 37cm. Maybe us big kids try too hard.
Some reminders. Don't forget about the photo comp and check the website to see if you have qualified for the last round fish off. The next round will be on the Goulburn river near the Mitchelltown winery. It wil be a Sunday morning fish on the 18th of March and from a few reports we should get into some nice cod there.
cheers Jarrod & Mick
