well if you can find out how deep the weed is roughly you can just flick the plastic over the weed bed to imitate a shrimp or something, should work, maby even try the 3'' minnow instead of 4''

Almost all fish, blue water or fresh, have a pretty good sense of smell. Just one look at some of the rivers inland (where you can't see your lure 30cm under the drink) is enough to prove that they rely on more than just sight. Garlic, cheese and meat are often used because they have a particularly strong scent, rather than because they are inherently attractive to fish.
Any natural scent added to your bait or lures should help with hooking more fish. For example garlic, cheese or mince with a bread base are great for scavengers such as carp - something that'll grab their attention and lure them in to try it. For predatory fish like Cod and Goldens, I prefer to stick with attractants like diced shrimp and yabbies - their targeted prey in the water.
I've not yet tried lure fishing, being a bait fisherman to the core (and not having a boat to troll from) but I've heard fantastic things about store-bought attractants used in conjuction with lures. I'll leave it to the more experienced fishermen here to fill you in on that.

yeah i pretty much just bankfish but recently have been using my kayak for it.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important!!!!!
Yeah I know a lot of people bankfish with lures but it's difficult at my spots, the banks are steep right down to the water and there are very few areas of exposed bank so it would only be cast and retrieve, no trolling. Also, the rivers up here are the muddiest I've ever seen. As you know, water turbidity doesn't really lend itself to lures.
yeah kayaks help to get to heaps of spots especially the rivers near me
