    Default Lake Mulwala

With the less than average temperatures we have experienced through April the MC have seemed to shutdown and are sulking in their snags. This has been the same story over most of the Murray and Victorian rivers connected to it. But from recent reports over the week-end of 29/30th April there has been some good fish being caught in Lake Mulwala so it seems that the MC are finallly making a move. Most good catches have been from trolling deep down to around the 30ft mark.

Lake Mulwala is certainly hit & miss at the moment and most lure casters, trollers and even the bait fisho's are finding the fishing is real hard work. Water clarity is very good, water temp is still at around 15deg (well under the average for this time of the year). Through the week there had been reports of good fish being trolled up from the 25-30ft mark and a 110cm from the Majors ck area and some solid 60cm+ fish in the timber out from Hogans Rd boat ramp. But by the week-end, most fishing the lake found the going pretty tough and very few good reports had been spoken of.

I think a rematch is on the cards tommorow . Should be no excuses very good barometer they need to have a decent feed.It will be interesting to see if the water temp has dropped further. I would think it has with the very cold nights lately.

    cheers

    I love your enthusiasm.

I think the water temp just may stay at around 15deg over the next couple of weeks as I feel we might get an improvement in the weather as the mild conditions of autumn just haven't shown so I'd reckon we are in for at least some autumn weather.

Sometime between now and end of June/July the fish are going to get a little psyched before winter temps do set in and when they do get on the lake because it may be shortlived. The poor MC dont know whats going on with the weather and the irrigation flows running/slowing/running and then stopping for a while.

I'm looking forward to a week at Robinvale early June. Fingers crossed.

With having just put the last post up I then had a look at the rivers.org site for the current temps and low and behold the temp has dropped from 15deg last Sunday to 13deg today.

Also the flow has backed off another 1500ML/day since last Sunday so it should not be long until the irrigation season closes. I was told May 15th was the date but it does change from time to time.

Another interesting point is the Yarrawonga Wier is releasing twice as much as Hume. So either the ovens is flowing well (hence, dirtying the lake up a bit) or its the natural draw down at the end of the irrigation season and final catch up of the flows from Hume.

I believe the paddle steamer pyap is coming back from mildura maybe this is the reason for the increased flow

    Cheers dangerous dave
