    Default Broken Rod Repair

    Lads,
I am after a bit of advice on repairing a couple of rods I managed to break under the swivel seat of the boat the other weekend. These are by no means expensive rods but if I can get away without buying new ones all the better. One of them is an old favorite from way back. They are both hollow glass rods. A picture paints a thousand words so I have included one to help.
Wouldn't mind have a crack at repairing them myself, might learn a bit, turn it into a bit of a positive.
Anyway any advice on where I should start is appreciated.

    Cheers
    Dave

Davo, try this site - flyanglersonline.com

right at the bottom of the page is a list of links, one of which is rod repairs.

it has instructions for a few different repair senarios, one of which is a repair similar to yours. Its a 4 part article from the american 'rod maker' magazine.

Although their repairs are for a graphite blank, I'm sure you'll get some value out of the article.

    Hope this helps,
    cam.

    Davo,
IMO, they're not worth the effort. There simply isn't enough room left inside the blank to use an interior sleeve and an external one kills the rods' action.
Best to retire them to the garage wall and let everyone think they broke on fish!
    Regards,
    Steve.

    Steve and Cam,
Thanks for the replies, I had a look at the article you mentioned Cam and pretty much came to the same conclusion as Steve. I will have to have a service and retire the old faithful rod, and then I will be forced to go to the tackle shop and buy two new rods , .They weren't expensive ones so it won't cost too much, oh I will need to get that new reel I was looking, and pick a few lures while I am there, and some hooks and sinkers and I NEED a new pair of lip grippers, and I'll check if they have a brag mat and.......yeah shouldn't cost too much

    Cheers
    Dave

Ps Did I tell you about the huge Cod I hooked onto that broke TWO of my rods??????
