Red face Hello! Looking for new ideas for rodbuilding

    Hi,
I'm looking outside the USA for new creative ideas for custom rod building. I was doing a search of the web and this was one of the few sites I found and the only one for Australia.

I mostly build light spin and flyrods and I am especially interested in new ideas for cork grip with inlays.

I live in Alaska and don't have a heated outside workshop so I glue up a bunch of grips and when the weather rises above freezing (early spring) set my lathe outside and finish them. I've run out of new ideas for cork grips so thought I would see what you guys are up to.

    Stop wishin'.........go fishin'!
    Better still............take a kid fishin'!
Nothin' beats a wild Barra, I don't care what the size of the pond bred!

Some people are like a Slinky ... not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.

Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

Thanks for the links! Those ultra-short spining rod grips are really interesting; anyone have any experience in fishing with them. I assume the up side of the build is that they are really lite, but I would like to hear the down side of using one.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the warm welcome and fishing rod links!

I mostly fish for salmon and wild Rainbows on the Kenai River here in Alaska, but the rivers on Kodiak Island are also a favorite of mine.

After scanning the links provided I have decided to design and build an ultra-short ultra-light spinning rod for river fishing, although when discussing this with other American rod builders I have found them skeptical and questioning as to how functional it would be.

Is there anyone on this site that has experience with fishing an ultra-short rod for fish up to 5 or 6 pounds?

    Default Re rods

    Hi Mate
Check out these couple of publications which have excellent resources for anglers.
    www.modernfishing.com
    www.nafa.com.au
    www.fishingmonthly.com

The trend here is to be fishing Lighter and lighter with the advent of braided threadline reels and graphite or semi graphite rods.I mean its the norm to fish with 6lb Bream outfits for Aussie Salmon etc
Good luck and keep in touch!
    Regards Chicka
