Default belated Port Kembla Report - 20th Feb

Went to Port Kembla with a few mates and we heard there were inshore marlin and dollies/kingies on the cards.
Did it pretty hard even getting bait (took till the 3rd location to get any)
Went out to the islands trolled live yakka and slimey for a coupla runs but no hookups.
We went to the FAD and also to the fish traps where we got into a small school of undersized dollies. (see attached piccie)

We had fun for an hour or so then we trolled some more, still nothing, lol
Last stop of the day we called for bottom bashing, we got a few sods and ends incl a Trev for me @ 31cm.
We hit good ground on the drift then the dreaded seal came around, playing havock with the Red's (Seal= 3, Team JH= 0).

We trolled on the way back in with a coupla skirts and I managed a bonnie which was kept for bait but he was pretty small, lol

Am waiting for the piccies of the bonnie and stuff but the dollies are sure a pretty fish, awesome to watch as they come up to the boat and the colour change is incredible!

Looking forwards to doing it all again soon.

    Cheers
    Anthony

    Nice report mate!
I think I mentioned in another post Swains has ruined me for estuary fishing, getting out offshore is so good.
How was the swell and wind chop on Sunday down there? We headed to the fads out of Port Jackson via off Vaucluse lighthouse chasing the kingies and dollies but had little results, fishing back inside Nth head in the arvo for smaller stuff.
A mate of a mate has an offshore cruisecraft ,which was still a jarring ride back, arms aching from jigging.
Here's a pic of the boat but didn't even bother with the fish pics!@#*&

Chicka, the swell at the time was ranging from 1-2m, in closer the swell was pushing 2m close to the Islands.
Tyhe wind was howling by 11am @ 20knots from the NE, so everything was blowing onshore and we copped a few drenchings even while drifting, but it adds to the fun of the day and I MUST add at no time did I feel unsafe, I asked the other lads and they were coool aswell... nothing worse than a grumble-arse fisho who is sea-sick and who feels unsafe. Luckily we were in an 8.5m boat

Seems the fish traps werent holding the Dollies we wanted (the fish trap was the skippers own trap) but the FAD was holdiing the smaller models.
Shipper told us a few days prior they were boating Dollies and Kingies to 12kg all on live slimeys and yakkas in front of his traps and also at the FAD.

There have ben reports of small Black Marlin in close aswell but we just couldnt raise the fish we wanted- DAMN THAT BLOODY SEAL! fully ruined our session just as we were getting into some good Red's (all were well above 40cm and one we saw get nailed on the surface went close to 60cm).

    Cheers
    Anthony
