Good on ya chicka, I'm still getting all my stuff together. It would be good to pass around some ideas. Maybe others will get the bug and make their own and show us their finished projects. I don't think I will have the set up like you have got though.

I just cut out some blanks usuing my small cheap gmc bandsaw. It did a great job, but the problem is I broke a few blades on it. If you planning on making quite a few, what would be the best way to machine the blanks, bandsaw ? (more serious one of course). |

Hi Crells If you don't have a table saw or band saw you could use a power saw with guide. The timber I got was 140mm x 19mm to rip in 19mm strips, then dock to length.Another idea is to bolt your power saw onto a sheet of ply and clamp a fence on.Sit this on a couple of saw stools. Keep in touch mate!

Table saw sounds the best for strips, but I don't have one. The timber I have is 38mm thick. Its jelutong which is fairly soft, but too thick for my cheap gmc bandsaw (blades break). It did however do a great job of cutting out the lure shape. You could cut out the whole lure with only minimal sanding required. I'm trying to make the process as simple as possible. Maybe investing in a better bandsaw is the way to go. Any recommendations ? I will try and remember to take some pics tonight. |

Hi Crells Have cut the blocks 100mm long and will turn on a lathe to roughly shape them. From there a carving knife and sand paper then a dremel. Will post pics as well !at the different stages. Good luck

Hi Chicka I don't think the lathe option would work on the shapes I'm cutting. The body is more of a rectangle shape with a curve in it. If I post a pic you will see what I mean. The last one I cut was a 110mm long. Considering longer... |

Great starting shape for the blank mate.I see what you mean about the lathe being more suited to popper and minnow patterns. Will try and shape a bass lure with this principle down the track when Iv'e had a go at some easier ones.A lure I have by www.cottoncordelllures.com/ which is a mid diver "The Big O" is a shape I liked!Does anyone out there know much about the harnessing arrangement for the trebles and tow pts?.Would be much appreciated. Good one Crells!

Hi Chicka, Not sure what you are using it for, but I'd like to see the big O with a huge bib on it. I've pulled apart a few lures (timber). The hook points are usually just twisted stainless wire that is screwed and glued into the lure. The lures that have tow points where the wire goes into the body, usually just have a bend at the end that is held in place by the bib and glue. I was actually shocked at some cod lures where the hook wire may only go in by about 1cm. |
