Our son and I headed to the local lake this morning for a bit of quality time together. These day's we don't get to fish together as much as we did. Today was like old times it was great, only 1 small Carp was landed and that was by Michael. It was fun watching him go into the drink to retrieve his new combo after the tripod, his and my rod took off along the bank, mine stopped, his kept going. I know there are some big Carp in the lake and today they must have decided to come out to play. Michael was busted off about 3 times, the one I hooked took off like a train not a hope in hell of turning it. It just kept stripping line, the Black Queen buckled as the Southern Aurora headed for the bull rushes and that was that [ping] Didn't really want to land it anyway "BULL I DIDN'T"

Sounds like it was a good day out to be enjoyed.
I had a play with a Black Queen in Big W this arvo. I went in to check out their fishing gear as I think they have 30% off fishing tackle now. I may end up getting the rod but I will be careful where I use it. It strikes me as being a finesse rod with not much stopping power! I was thinking about using it on blackfish (freshwater) but then some places I would chase them the risk of getting a decent cod is just too great and I am not a fan of long winded fights with cod on light gear.

No easy way to say this Kev but me thinks you are going to have to go back to the lake 'armed to the teeth! This means with a rod which roughly resembles a broomstick!:) What pound breaking strain line did Mr carp break anyway?
    Cheers

I agree with Bender Kev, and regardless, it's all good fun. They're a nice enough stick to use for some applications, but definitely lacking in stopping power. I believe I have more of that with my 1-3kg rods, particularly the fastest action one (they are all different actions) running 4lb braid. But when the piscatorial critters head into reeds and tree roots etc, sometimes it wouldn't matter if you were running anchor chain. I certainly found that while chasing fairly big carp on fly under the willow trees of the Queanbeyan River.

I couldn't find a broom stick but this should do the job. The odds are against him next time I go to the Lake, no more Mr nice guy. RTR-70_WheelLift-Extended_lg.png

Hey Kev, I've got some leader for that rig, it is 15 tonne breaking strain cable that I use in my mining shaft. It's not the easiest to tie, but if you use a Murrumbidgee Frog Knot it should hold.

Lyn, Michael and myself headed to the local Lake yesterday to have another go at that big carp. The conditions were great for fishing, but alas another Donut day. The big fella must have decided not to play. There's always another day [I hope] A couple of sausages with onions on bread thanks to Lyn topped off a good day.

We decided to try lighter gear, but he must have had other commitments

Kev, I have a spool of 160lb mono leader material, used when I did a fair bit of game fishing. It would probably handle this elusive carp when tied to your car. That would be cheaper to run than these other options you've considered; then you could perhaps afford to have steak and eggs with the savings rather than a humble 'banger'.

Have you tried using a fresh killed whole lamb for bait?
