Has anyone had any experience with the mushroom anchors?
I believe that they are suitable for mud and sand.
Do you need to attach a chain to them before the rope as is the case with other anchors?

    Cheers,

    Matt

Hi Matt, What are you using them for? Is it for a boat mooring, not suitable for a boat mooring!

I would always use a length of chain before any anchor like this, keeps the sand etc out of the rope and prevents the rope chaffeing and then wearing away. Better still use a complete mooring with chain. A three point mooring system is the best way with something like Stingray anchors for a permanent mooring.

Thanks Tim. I would be using it on a small boat (around 11'). I don't have a lot of clearance from the bow to the water and I wanted to be able to pull the anchor up from the rear of the boat using a bow roller and leave it hanging. I fish mainly in estuaries where the bottom is either sand or mud but occasionally it can be rocky.
My next question would be if they are suitable, would 5kg or 10kg mushroom anchor be sufficient?

Hey mate shortlink chain is designed for automatic anchor winches, I'd imagine it would work much the same in your setup

absolutely useless unless they are 20+ lb and in that lovely gooey black mud other wise all it will do

is maybe slow your drift over the bottom .

    if just a 11'tinny just get a danforth anchor 6lb and 3m of 6mm chain .
