Hi all...Shimano have released their latest model Stradic...the FL. Some comments on social media suggest that it is too 'plasticy'.

Anyway, the price of the old model, the FK, is coming down in some stores. So Bender sees an opportunity to swoop...even though I don't need one.

Does anyone have experience with the FK? If so, good or bad experience?
    Cheers

I've got a 4000 FK, Jim and would class it as one of the best Stradics that I have owned. I've also got a Ci4 4000 and I much prefer the FK. Both are 6.2:1 gear ratio and 11 kg drag with the FK being a slightly heavier reel that seems to balance on a 6-10 kg rod better than the Ci4. Some like to use a light reel, but I would rather a heavier outfit.

Go for it man, don't hold back - you know that you need one.

^^^Sounds good! By the sounds of it, you should get a couple as well! I likely will get one...when I start utilising everything I have now. Thanks for the info.

I have them in 2500 and 5000 they are very smooth even the 5000 even though
The gear ratio is way to high for a reel this size ......

    Cheers TAC

I use my 4000FK mainly for fast cranking top water lures amongst the mangroves or metals in surf gutters and find the 6.2:1 ratio ideal, but not the best for a slow retrieve of deep diving hard bodies or sp's. I prefer a lower ratio with a bit of grunt in pulling power for bottom fishing, but it seems that just about all of the higher quality Shimano reels have the high gear ratios whist the bottom shelf models have ratios in the 5:1 range.

I have 2 4000 fk. on 10'6 Live fibre Beach rods. Absolutely divine to use. 6 to 1 yes . But I dont notice it with a fish on. Cranking power is good!

Looking at some tackle stores and I thought maybe I can go without another reel! Then I spotted the Daiwa BG and had a play with it! It was impressive! So if I do get another reel...the BG will be a contender! Normally in situations like this, I end up getting 2 reels!

AFAIC the daiwa BG is the best bang for buck on the market and I'm a Shimano bloke ......
    Ps but I haven't used a BG smaller than 4500 .
